New Mount Gilead Baptist Church
Project Type
Environment
Objective
In 2019, New Mount Gilead Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas, purchased a large, vacant church property in nearby Lancaster. With the goal of expanding the size of its congregation by appealing to a broader demographic, the church leadership embarked on a large-scale renovation of the newly purchased property. The church leadership team hired SDA based on its successful history of designing spaces for organizations such as the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center, BridgeBuilders, and Vendor Resource Management.
Delivery
With input from the senior pastor, SDA worked closely with the church’s leadership team to develop a new front entry vestibule and a site plan for future expansion. The updated vision for the new vestibule replaced what was a dated all-brick façade with striking, double-height glass walls that draw in abundant natural light. Crisp white walls offset by traditional brick, matte black steel beams and a custom front railing give the renovated church a more modern, almost industrial feel that implies growth and renewal. The 1,500 square foot addition now serves as the church’s most visible focal point and is a beacon of new possibilities for the congregation and neighboring community.
